Dinesh joined Bhumi’s centre to learn computers in 2008. By 2011, he had begun his higher education and started volunteering with Bhumi as well. In 2016, Dinesh was recognised with Bhumi’s Changemaker Award for excellence in volunteering for leading the education programme at the centre which he joined as a student. This is testimony to the power of volunteering for education!
Given India’s vastness and complexity, we believe that if every individual stepped up to identify and resolve challenges in the community, we would not only be the change, but also create a culture of volunteering and self-sustainability. Thus, Bhumi founded in 2006, has created a simple scalable model for individuals to volunteer for education and civic welfare across India.
While 2,000 volunteers and 200 teachers work with 25,000 underprivileged children providing comprehensive educational support in STEM, life skills and scholarships, over 18,000 volunteers work for civic welfare linked to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Bhumi’s geographical presence is across Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, Delhi NCR, Chandigarh, Kolkata and Tiruchirapalli. Bhumi’s outreach is to 274 shelter homes, 25 slum communities and 27 government and low-income schools
What sets Bhumi apart:
- Delivering child-centered pedagogy and academic content
- Igniting leadership abilities and building human capital
- Scaling successful pilot programmes
- Collaborating with like-minded organizations across causes
- Using technology for process alignment
